Reading and Writing-The END of the year goal is that your student will:
identify all letters (capital and lowercase) and know each letter sound.
Memorize at least 50 sight words (words that are the most used in the English language, this will make reading easier).
Learn phonics skill such as rhyming, counting syllables, sounding out words, and blending sounds to make words.
Show comprehension by knowing a story's main characters, setting, and key events.
Read on a level D book independently
Write legibly using appropriate capitalization and punctuation in different writing contexts.
Math-The END of the year goal is that your student will:
Count by 1's & 10's to 100
Read, write, count, and compare numbers to 20
Solve addition and subtraction problems
Identify and describe 2D and 3D shapes
Identify forms of measurement (length, weight, and capacity)
Create a graph
Science-This year your student will participate in science explorations in the following topics:
force, motion, and energy
matter
earth and space
organisms and environments
Social Studies-This year your student will learn various topics about our world such as:
authority figures and rules
chronology
American symbols and customs
location and place
jobs in our community
family customs and traditions
holidays
historical figures
needs and wants
Character Values-Students will also learn habits and skills of a successful learner such as:
following rules and procedures
how to participate in learning
showing respect for self, others, and property
time management
problem solving skills
Social Skills & Study Habits "E" = "EXCEEDS Expectations" An "E" is earned when a child consistently behaves ABOVE grade level expectations...He/She requires few reminders to make appropriate behavior choices.
"S" = "Satisfactory" An S is earned when a child is MEETING grade level expectations for behavior. He/She is performing well.
"N" = "Needs Improvement" An "N" is earned when a child's behavior is NOT meeting grade level expectations. He/She is having some difficulty following classroom directions, rules and routines.
"U" = "Unsatisfactory" A "U" is earned when a child's behavior falls FAR BELOW grade level expectations. He/She is experiencing great difficulty in following directions, rules and routines.
